For Uncle Paul
8 Months (a week and a half late)
So, I'm getting a little better with being on time with her monthly post, right? It's just amazing how much more difficult this parenting thing is with a child who MOVES! And this girl can get around. I sometimes turn my head for a few seconds and when I look back cant believe she is in another spot. We are really having to re learn and adjust to doing every day things in a whole new way (especially when by our selves). This coming weekend I have to work all weekend long so I'm anxious to see how Alex handles her all day Saturday and Sunday by himself.
Anyhoo, back to what this blog is all about, the cutest little girl in the world!! Who just turned eight months old (which means only four more months until her first birthday - gasp!!)
On top of starting to crawl this month she has tried a ton of new foods. One of her favorites you saw in the last post was french fries. She's only had them once but she LOVED them! Even Danny and Andrew for the rest of the weekend if she cried they asked "where is a french fry to give her?" Other first have been olives (okay), grapefruit (surprisingly didn't mind), peaches, plums and asparagus (liked all), mustard (hated it) and graham crackers (Pepper ends up with most of them).
And now to what you all come here to see, the pictures! Again, it's is getting so much harder to get good shots of her now (so I bribed her with an empty box)!

That only helped for so long

Before she wanted to play with the camera

And a little diddy that she will thank me for when she's fifteen

Lastly, she is the best part of our day it is such a joy to watch her grow and learn new things everyday. And she is becoming more fun and funnier every day too. We find ourselves laughing at her all the time and she even laughs with us now. Even with all the changes and extra "work" if you will, it is amazing how much we both love this little girl.

Catching up
***Warning, this is going to be a very long post with lots of pictures
So, a few weeks ago we flew to Minnesota to visit with Alex's sister Amanda and her family. Alex's other sister, Lindsay and her husband, Eric were also there and we had such a great weekend with each other. Amanda's family had not seen Maddie since she was a mere four weeks old so they were all surprised at how big she had gotten.
The boys were so good with her and immediately started playing with her and giving her some of their old toys to play with.

Thursday we went into Minneapolis and enjoyed the world famous "Jucy Lucy" at Matt's Bar. Maddie got to enjoy her first french fries and LOVED them. She would cry every time I tried to take one away from her

We then went to a local park and enjoyed a nice little nature walk.

Maddie, Danny and Andrew even got to play in the shallow part of the water.

Amanda and Peter are members of a boat club so Friday the whole crew packed up and headed out on the lake.

We were a little worried about how Maddie would be on the boat but she was amazing! I was prepared to go back to the house early with her but she ended up staying out with us all day.

We tried some water skiing

A relaxing tube ride

And a not so relaxing one

We even at one point stopped at an area of the lake that is really shallow and Maddie got a chance to enjoy the water. This was the first time she had been in anything bigger than the bath tub and at first she wasn't so sure about. She did eventually warm up to it and really enjoyed although I don't have any pictures of that because we were all in the water.

After a while she decided that watching and relaxing from the boat was more her style.

This was how she spent a lot of the time on the boat. Anytime the engine started up and we were moving she was OUT!

Saturday morning we went to a local park on the lake and enjoyed breakfast next to the water. We also had the opportunity to take a few family pictures.

Saturday afternoon we spent the time playing lawn games at the house and then enjoyed a fabulous rib dinner. We then stayed up late (or at least later than I have in a while) drinking and playing games. Sunday morning we all sadly packed up and headed home. We had so much fun that we have decided that this will need to be an annual tradition and next year we will have Lindsay & Eric's daughter to join use!

Changes
I'm still working on a long post re capping our weekend in in Minnesota but wanted to share with you a few ways our household has changed in the last few days since Maddie has become mobile.
1. No more dropping her on the floor someone and leaving even for a minute. This is what happened Monday night when we got home and I left her in the hallway with a bag while I went to let Pepper outside. It was also more difficult for me to get a shower his weekend. Normally I would lay her on the living room floor with a bottle and had nothing to worry about. Now i have to put her in her bed which she is not too happy about and proceeds to scream the entire time. (does not make for a relaxing shower)

2. Time to get those plastic rails to protect the sides of her crib from being gnawed to bits

But it is nice to wake up to see this every morning.

3. She is all of a sudden not happy to just sit on the floor and play when she could be standing. This is how she spends most of the evening now. Of, if I'm in the kitchen she is constantly trying to crawl up my legs.

Somebody's mobile
(and some other people are screwed!)

And so it has begun . . . Maddie started crawling last week! She is still rather slow and sometimes gets frustrated and just stops and starts crying, but we definitely have a mover. She also wants to pull up on EVERYTHING as you can see from the pictures above. I don't think it will be long before she's walking and we will have a toddler on our hands! (eeek, how is that even possible!!)
I know I have lots to update this week about our trip, her eight month pictures and all the exciting new food she has been trying. But I have some how lost the battery charger for our camera so this is all I have for now. More to come!

New Toys
Maddie has been enjoying quiet a few new toys in the last few days. First up, the johnny jump-a-roo. Because she likes to jump so much while you are holding her in your lap I figured that she would love this toy, but she still hasn't really gotten the hang of it.

Secondly junk mail (because don't you know that all the best toys are free)!! She spent at least an hour the other night surrounded by our junk mail from the day and throwing the different pieces about while squealing. She also right now really likes empty boxes, most recently a uncle bens rice box.

Such concentration!

And mostly importantly, her best friend Pepper, who took a few minutes the other night to step away from her guard dog position at the front window

to roll around and play with Maddie on the floor. These two love each other so much!

I know it has been very picture heavy post the last few days but we were so busy over the holiday weekend and we also have been getting ready to go out of town this weekend. We head out this afternoon to go to visit Alex's sister and her family in Minnesota so I will not posting again until we return on Monday.
