Mommy's Little Helper
This has been a favorite toy of hers lately. She tries to carry both the broom and dustpan around with her which sometimes prevents her from fitting through a doorway. Pretty funny to watch!

Friday Funday
Maddie had two doctors visit on Friday, her 15 month well visit and a dermatologist appointment. The first one wasn't until 10am so Maddie and I lounged around for a little bit after daddy left for work. Then we got up and had breakfast and coffee together (she had breakfast, I had coffee). Once I was ready to get her dressed I went into her room where I had laid out all her clothes for the day earlier and I could not find the shoes she was going to wear.
Side note: the girl LOVES shoes! One of her favorite things to do is go into her room and pull all her shoes off the shelf in her closet and pick out a pair to bring to you. And it's always a pair, never a miss matched set. Anyway, back to Friday morning - I knew she had only been in her bedroom, our bedroom and the kitchen that morning but I could not find them anywhere! I kept asking her what she had done with them and she just shook her head and put her hands up out to her side as if to say "I don't know." I searched for at least 20 minutes looking under beds, in closets and hampers before I saw her shoes here:
I made her pose with her handy work and her innocent "who me?" face. This is a small table I have just inside the back door for my purse and her diaper bag and apparently her shoes now too. She must have put them on at some point while I was cooking breakfast without me noticing.
Once we got to the pediatricians office she was in such a great mood! This was how we spent the entire time waiting on the dr.
She loved the sound the paper made and kept dancing and jumping all over it. Her visit went great, here are her 15 month stats but she is right on track with everything.
Height 31 in - 50-75%
Weight 21 lbs 12 oz - 25-50%
Head 46 cm - 50%
She's still not talking much but the doctor wasn't concerned and said we would revisit it and see how she was doing at 18 months and decided then what to do. Here she is enjoying some snacks before the dreaded shots.
In between appointments we barely had time to go home and eat and get a nap in so I had to wake her up in order to get to the dermatologist office in time. I have no pictures from there because she wasn't the happiest patient at that point in the day.
The dermatologist looked at the birthmark on her forehead but wasn't concerned about it at all. He said there is a slight increased risk (like 2%) of melanoma later in life and we could choose to have it removed if we wanted to or just keep an eye on it. So, we've decided we'll just keep an eye on it and will see him again in a year.
And since she was such a trouper for most of the day she, Pepper and I cuddled up that afternoon and watched most of Monsters, Inc before she fell asleep again for a short nap.
All and all a pretty great day spent with the munchkin!

Spring Fever
This was the temperature when I went out to the thrift store at lunch today - 57 degrees!! In Chicago!! In February!! Granted, it's overcast and windy but I'll take it over a 8 degree day any time.

Curls
No one in my immediate family has curly hair. In fact, we all have mostly thin and fine hair. Alex's two sister both have curly hair though so my mom was hoping that Maddie would maybe end up with that gene. But of course she ended up with straight hair - until recently. As her hair has gotten longer and longer this is what it looks like every night after her bath:
Of course, it doesn't stay like this for long but it gives my mom a little hope that she will still end up with some curl!
And isn't this an awesome mullet?!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Saturday night Maddie stayed at her Grandma's so Alex and I could go out to dinner.
You can kind of see from these few pictures that her cute little bows are actually useful now to hold some of her hair out of her face. She is rockin a serious mullet these days!
This weekend she also helped me make Valentine's for each of her classmates at school
And cinnamon honey butter for her teachers. Of course we had to sample to make sure it was good and it was definitely delicious!
The weather here also has been so nice!! It was almost 40 degrees today and should get into the 50's on Wednesday! I know all my relatives in the south think I'm crazy just for saying that but it's amazing how a few weeks of below freezing weather can affect you.

An update on our day
Maddie went down for an early nap right about the time it stopped snowing. We decided to take advantage of the time and get out and get some shovelling done. We we able to quickly make a path from the back door to the garage and decided to go ahead and open the garage door to see how the alley looked. This is what we were greeted with:
We stood there for a while trying to figure out what to do.
Um, yeah, we might still be snowed in tomorrow.
Not that these two would mind, I think they think this is the best thing ever!
I decided that while the sun was out (only briefly) and before the really cold temps set in(it's supposed to be -10 tonight without the wind chill) that we should get Maddie bundled up and outside for a few pictures.
Ready to go!
She mostly just stood there looking around and I don't think she was too sure of the walls of white stuff all around her.
I think here she's giving me her "I'm ready to go back in" face
We couldn't pass up the opportunity to actually put her IN the snow. Since her pants weren't waterproof we had her sit on Alex's arm so she hardly even touched the snow. I don't know if you can really see her face but she was not happy about it.
The drifts in the front yard are higher than the ones on the pathway in the back so I wanted to get a picture of her out there as well.
And this I feel will be a familiar seen in our house for years to come!
***Update - Alex has asked our neighbor is we can borrow their snow blower for the garage area so there is a chance we might be going to work tomorrow. We'll see what happens when they finally get around to plowing the alley. Right now Maddie and i are enjoying a Disney princess movie so I might just be okay with staying home for another day. Especially with all the shoveling taken care of, that is HARD WORK!

Snowed In!
We were lucky enough to be able to leave work about 2:30 yesterday and it still took us over an hour and half to get home. Even at 3pm yesterday, it had only been snowing for about an hour but the winds were so strong and blowing snow everywhere that visibility was already a problem. Once we were here we knew we weren't going to be going anywhere!

Alex trying to get outside to shovel some snow away from the door. We couldn't get this door open this morning so Pepper had to go out our front door and do her business in the front yard. (She typically loves the snow but is not interested in this 40 mph wind business)

Someone was excited when she heard "Snow Day"
And it's still not over! As I type the wind and snow have picked up and again and the weather men say we can expect at least another 2 inches before this afternoon. It seems the whole city is pretty much shut down. Lake Shore Drive (the road we used to live on and take home everyday) was shut down last night after a few accidents that caused people to be stranded in their cars for 12 hours. We are just so grateful to have been able to leave early yesterday as well as the fact that we never lost power throughout the night.
With the snow still coming down shoveling at this point is impossible, so we are settled in for a nice long day of a whole lot of nothing!
