Bubble Bath

Maddie really loves her bath time and we really need to get into the habit of giving her one every night instead of every other night (or two).

A few nights ago we decided to try out a bubble bath.

She obviously wasn't to thrilled about it, so back to regular baths for us

Weekend recap

Well, really just Sunday, but whatever. Sunday morning Maddie finally got the opportunity to meet her new cousin, Kate. We headed over to Lindsay and Eric's for breakfast and at first Maddie really wasn't sure what was going on. Kate was sleeping and so quiet that I'm not sure Mad even realized she was there.

After we ate we posed them together for a few pictures.

Maddie was really sweet and (mostly) gentle with Kate. She sort of held her hand and finger and then since she is used to petting Pepper she started "petting" Kate by rubbing her hand over the top of her head. We at that point had to separate them to make sure Kate didn't really get whacked but I think these two are going to be best friends in the near future.

After a much needed nap we finally got around to carving our pumpkins for Halloween.

She wasn't interested in touching anything

Except of course the pumpkin seeds which she wanted to eat. Go figure that she won't eat mac n cheese but she'll chomp away on pumpkin seeds.

She quickly got bored and decided she would much rather play with all the leaves on the patio. The color is this picture is a little off because I forgot to use the flash, but she this was the only one where you could really tell she was throwing leaves.

Once we were done we tried to get a few pictures of her with us and the pumpkins but she apparently had other plans.

And this so far is the best shot I have of her walking. I sat her down and was able to get two pictures before she decided she didn't want to sit there by herself. She stood up and walked almost all the way to me. Of course I stopped taking pictures because she was on the sidewalk and I was scared she would fall and hit her head.

As for the walking, still no more than a few steps at a time and only when she wants to. If you stand her up and try to get her to walk to you she's not interested AT ALL but leave her be and she will stand right up and take a few steps. I am trying to keep the camera with me to get some more pictures but just haven't had the chance to.

We have a walker!!

Maddie took her first steps tonight! At least the first we have seen (and I don't want to hear about it if you have seen her do it before) ;-). Thanks.

We had Lindsay on speaker phone early tonight and were listening to a few of the "experiences" she has had the last few days with Kate when all of a sudden Maddie let go of the coffee table and took three or four steps. Of course I immediately yelled at Alex to find the camera and I probably squealed a little bit too. Once we were off the phone we set up the camera and were able to capture the next few steps on film.

Unfortunately I still haven't been able to load videos here but I will be more than happy to skype with anyone interested if they want to see!

She has not taken more than a few steps at a time and mostly only when prodded by us but I have a feeling I will only be able to say that for a few more days!

Then we will officially have a toddler (eeekkk)!!!!

Eating

So, turns out we have quiet a stubborn daughter (who would have thought.) In the past we have never had a problem with her eating. AT ALL. Remember this picture:

Yeah, she was a pig. But now, she absolutely refuses to be fed by someone with a spoon. Also, no vegetables. Her diet recently has consisted of mostly dry snacks and crackers, cheese, some fruit and meat sticks. I don't know what to do about it.

We at first were okay with her not eating baby food anymore, she would just eat a little bit of whatever we were having. Less work and time on our part, woo hoo! But then she stopped eating what we were eating too. I still every day put things on her plate hoping she will try them with no such luck. The few things she does allow us to put in her mouth she will immediately spit out.

What do I do? Just let her eat what she will? Try to make her eat? Help.

Snacks

Recently two things have happened in our household:

1. Maddie has decided that she only wants to feed herself (more on this later)
and
2. Pepper has realized that she can easily jump the baby gate keeping her out of the kitchen while Maddie eats

So we have had to find new ways to give Mad her snacks. Enter the awesome Munchkin snack holder that has a flexible top that allows Maddie to reach in for snacks but prevents them from falling out as the flings it everywhere. Unfortunately, our good fortune only lasted a few weeks before we discovered this:

And we can't even really be upset with her because it was just to funny watching her lick the inside like crazy trying to get just a few of the Cheerios in her mouth only to get stuck with this thing on her nose!

Introducing . . .

Katherine Beck Malmanis

Who arrived yesterday afternoon weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces and 19.5 inches long. I finally got to meet her today and she is the (second) most precious baby! She's so tiny and has the longest toes and fingers, just holding her gives me a little "baby fever". She is absolutely perfect!

Lindsay, Eric and Kate are all doing great. Maddie wasn't allowed on that particular floor of the hospital so she won't get a chance to meet her cousin until they go home in a few days. Until then I hope they are all able to take advantage of the wonderful nurses and get a little rest.

Congratulations!

October Fest

Our weekend started off with an Octoberfest housewarming party at our friend Ryan and Emily's house, although I forgot my camera so I have no pictures from the night. We also found out at the party that two of our close friends are expecting babies in the spring so Maddie will have a few more playmates by this time next year! We are so thrilled and excited for both couples!

Sunday Alex and I both had to work so Maddie spent the day with Grandma. On Monday we loaded up the car and headed 45 minutes north to an apple orchard just over the Wisconsin state line. I had really been looking forward to he trip for a while and was even more pumped that we would be able to go during the week when it wouldn't be so crowded. Little did I know that this last Monday was Columbus Day and all the schools would be closed. Urrrgghhh! It ended up working out okay though, we got there early enough that we were able to leave just as it seemed to be getting busy.

This place had a TON of goats and little gum ball machines with goat food in them. For a quarter you could buy some food and feed the goats through the fence. They were so gentle but were little piggies. Alex's first handful of food was gone before I even got into position with the camera. He looked up at me asking if I'd gotten a good shot and I don't think I'd even turned the thing on yet.

Maddie even got to help.

This goat was particular fond of her and even gave her a little sugar when we sat her down for pictures.

Next was the pumpkin patch which were the pictures that I was really looking forward to. unfortunately there weren't a lot of pumpkins left and I also wasn't really happy with the lighting in either of these. I may have to take her to a local patch to try and get some better pictures.

We also got to enjoy a corn maze and had a kind woman offer to take a family picture of us so I had evidence that I was there that day.

And lastly was the apple orchard. We decided not to actually pick any apples because it was $12 for a small bag that holds maybe 6 apples (ridiculous). instead we just plopped her on the ground and gave her a few props to play with. These were some of the best pictures from the day.

Notice all those teeth on top? She now has three all the way through on top with a fourth coming in and a third tooth coming in on the bottom. (nights at our house have been fun!)

It was getting close to lunch time then and the orchard was getting more crowded so we decided to pack it in for the day. We made one stop at the Mars Cheese Castle and then headed home. Maddie slept most of the way home and was therefore really crabby and hungry once we got there. But daddy was nice enough to share some fries with her which I think was her favorite part of the day!

The rest of the day was spent lounging around the house, including Maddie in her favorite chair.

Sleep

So I have heard from a few of you that you are tired of seeing the "Trip to Georgia" post every time you log in. Unfortunately my computer died on me a few times last night while I was working on a new post and rather than slam it against the wall (which wouldn't make Alex very happy) I decided it would have to wait until tonight.

So, until then, enjoy these few pictures of Maddie sleeping which is now the easiest time to take a picture of her.

This is my favorite. It was the night that nothing I was doing could soothe including giving her a bottle or her pacifier. I had to just let her cry for a while before she fell asleep. When I went in later to check on her this is what I found, her snuggled up with her seahorse.

Trip to Georgia

Last Thursday Maddie and I headed off to visit my family in Georgia. The trip didn't start out on the best note as the night before we left our little munchkin was up screaming several times during the night and wouldn't take a bottle. I was worried she had another ear infection so I took her to the doctor Thursday morning before we left and was told it was just a bad cold. And then we heard about the Similac recall and was worried about it being that since she still wouldn't take a bottle all day Thursday. She unfortunately fussed and cried for most of the flight and this was her first picture at my parents house:

Doesn't she look thrilled to be there?

We had gotten in late so we headed to bed and Maddie quickly warmed up to Ninnie and Buddy as they bribed her with homemade waffles for breakfast. And yes, that's her foot on the table. No idea why she does this but I think it's hilarious!

And she even snuggled up and took a few naps with them before the weekend was over

On Friday we got to visit with my cousin Erica and her family and Maddie was so excited that she was big enough to play some with her cousins Asa and Zoe. Her great grandparents, Friss and Pops also came over for a bit and brought some cheese straws for me to bring back home. (Thanks, Friss - from Alex and a few other people at work who were lucky enough to get a few)

Friday afternoon we were off again to Alabama to see Maddie's other great grandmother Maw Maw. We were later joined by my Uncle Ken and Aunt Bev for a delicious home made dinner.

Then Saturday we hit the road again to head to Birmingham to see my brother Paul and his wife Brittany. Maddie also got to meet her friend Ellie for the first time and discuss there mutual love of Alabama football.

They became fast friends and Maddie even gave her a few kisses and hugs/head buts before we left.

A few friends came over to watch the game.

But the best part of the trip was having the whole family together, sort of. It would have been so much more fun if Alex had been with us but he was busy working one of the last baseball games of the year. (Squuueeee)

We returned to Newnan late Saturday night and spent most of the day Sunday doing a whole lot of nothing. By then Maddie was feeling better and actually slept the whole night on Sunday night. We flew home Monday and couldn't wait to see daddy at the airport but we were EXHAUSTED. Okay, maybe not Mad because she slept the whole plane ride home, but I sure was tired. The trip went by so quick it's hard to believe that we were there for almost four days.

We've already booked our flight home for Thanksgiving (with Alex) and we can't wait to see everybody again then!

And yes, you heard that correctly - baseball season is OVER!!!! We are both back to working much more normal schedules and already have a few family outings planned. I'm seeing something having to do with pumpkins and hay rides . . .
